Here are some tips to think about if you are planning to start your own business or have a business and need a new website:
1) Getting your website is NOT the place to start your business. Start with a solid business plan. The plan should come before the marketing. If you don’t know how to write a business plan talk to your local or regional SBDC or Chamber of Commerce.
2) If you don’t have any marketing materials we should start there or put you in contact with one of our partners and start there. Having a logo and a few basic marketing tools (or at least some ideas) should come before your website. HINT – getting your domain name ahead of time so you can add this to your marketing materials is a good idea.
3) Analyze your business. What do you want a website for? How will it help your business? What goals are you trying to accomplish by setting up a website? AND definitely have a professional review your goals with you. If you are a sole-proprietor and have no employees and all of a sudden you start selling on the Net what will you do if you get 1000 orders the first day? How will you package them, make the product and ship them all by yourself.
4) Have a plan (see above).
5) Have time to develop a site. Developing a website revolves a relationship between Visionary and your company. If you don’t have time to meet with us to discuss your project(s) you don’t have time to put together a website. Too many businesses expect us to magically create a site for them that does everything they want to do without any thought as to what they really want to accomplish. We need to have a good handle on what you do and how your business works before we can develop a site for you.
